Who I am

My name is Ignacio Abalia Camino, although many years ago I changed it to Iñaki. I was born in Bilbao in 1950. I dedicated myself to an activity that had nothing to do with art (computer project management), until finally, due to age, I was able to give it up. As I have always been attracted to art, especially drawing and painting, I decided to use my free time in 2013 to study the degree of Art at the University of the Basque Country, which I finished with a master's degree in painting in 2019.

In this period my vision of painting and drawing was reaffirmed as an experience that is born from the emptiness of a sheet of paper, or a blank canvas, to create something new that is nothing more than a sequence, a scene or a fragment of my search between the unknown and the new. The engine I use for this is the imagination, which is the basis of my work.

Moved by the imagination and the subconscious, the first spots of color and lines appear that, as I react to them (by way of evocation, the sensation they produce in me, I consciously react by suggesting the appearance of figures , landscapes, ideas... that I correct until I undo them at times, consciously applying an uncertain or ambiguous, ironic or critical meaning,  and sometimes chaotic. It is a continuous action-reaction process without no preset goal, perhaps the opposite of the Project idea that occupied me professionally for so many years.

It is my way of releasing energy by going to maximum freedom, only conditioned by the limits of my own imagination.

I'm not pursuing a global project, I'm working  on the go. I post what I draw on Instagram (@abaliacamino) and on Facebook (Iñaki Abalia Camino), because I love that there are no physical borders between my works and the outside world. From time to time an exhibition appears that is always motivating as well as frustrating because the Art market is perhaps one of the most difficult there is.

Mission

I have produced works and continue to do so in different formats (canvas, paper), using various techniques (oil or acrylic, India ink, gouache, graphite; in recent years I have been devoting more and more time to digital drawing.

My will is to continue doing it as long as my body lasts and my imagination doesn't run out. And when the time comes, take a look at what has been done and draw some conclusion about the process followed and review my criteria. Perhaps at some point you need to recover the Project idea to give greater coherence to the work. Pending subject.

On this page I want to publish not all the work, but the most significant part of it that I will gradually update, and offer you, who are now reading, the possibility of getting to know it and if you wish, contact me for any comment you may have. happen.

Everything that appears on the page, except for works that are out of print, are for sale.

Vision

My goal is twofold, to enjoy making my works, on the one hand, and to be able to satisfy the broadest possible sector of the public that might like them, on the other.  Whether they are collectors or an intermediary in the gallery sector, or people who like works for decorative or other purposes (I am thinking of applications of digital drawing in the textile field, for example).
